Threat to my final salary pension?
Comments

I'm glad this is resolving itself.
The three year average is probably in the scheme rules but you should check that too.
My letter is ready so GP appointment tomorrow morning to view this report and take it from there. Thanks again BobQ and to all who advised me on this matter. I'll keep you informed.
P.s. If your curious about this balance problem these are the symptoms:
Driving:
Sense of space and timing is seriously inhibited which results in misjudging traffic lights, roundabouts, right and left turning and speed.
Walking:
Can only walk on known and practised routes with least pedestrians and road junctions.
Also unable to walk in darkness even on well lit roads and streets.
Continuous feet dragging, tripping on pavement edges and each step resulting in visual movement with a failure to recognise familiar faces even at a short distance.
Tend to stumble moving from light to shade and vice – versa.
Stairs:
Have to negotiate support going downstairs and even walk backwards if steps are narrow (Not a lot thank goodness).
Sitting:
Slight problem sitting down but must ensure enough space when rising.0 -
Just to say thanks again to all you good folks.I will be 65 years old in July but have a long term and quite a severe balance problem (5 years) which has prevented me from doing my job as a driver/salesman but I’m still registered as an employee with my company. (Possibly to do with being over 60 and have a final salary pension?).
Initially I received 3 weeks sick pay and was then replaced but I knew this would happen. I then subsequently lived off benefits and savings with the only communication being a yearly letter asking for permission to view a doctor’s report and attending a company medical to which I agreed but nothing ever came of it.
Yesterday (Thursday) a registered letter arrived from the company saying they have read the doctor’s report. There were no questions about my symptoms or how I’m affected by them.
It also contained the words “fit to work and have chosen not to” and also “you no longer wish to be employed by < company> and assume you wish your employment to be terminated”.This will be 2nd June 2012. All pretty sore stuff!
This was not signed by a regional manager (Scotland) but by a company director (UK).
I have been on the ‘phone all day trying to speak to this director but with no success and H.R. said they would call back but never did.
What worries me is as my retirement is in 7 weeks is there any threat to my final salary pension?
Much obliged.
I saw the GP report then posted a letter to the company on Monday 28th and received a 'phone call from the HR lady on Tuesday 29th at 6.15pm admitting they were at fault in not responding to my permission for a doctor's report.
She also admitted they misinterpreted the report that they received (doctor called it vertigo whereas the neurologist said that with my symptoms he had no idea what it was and stated so).
I'm looking forward to retirement now and also some unexpected holiday pay.... good heavens!!!
Cheers again.

Ah that is good. It is always nice to hear what happened afterwards, so many posters never came back after getting their answers. Good luck mate!
Cheers
