Help Wanted - Bosch A Rated Combination Oven

Am in the middle of cooking the roast dinner and after having the above oven for a couple of months now I am at boiling point. We chose this one for quite a few reasons but made sure when looking at the different features that we bought an "A" rated one because we try to be as green as possible as well as trying to be very careful when using electrical appliances. The trouble is I know it has a cooling feature that carries on when you turn the oven off. My other Panasonic one had this feature too but it would go off in five minutes or so.

I have just put a chicken in for 20 minutes on combination before transferring it to the big oven and it has been half an hour and the cooling thing is still on. I know I have read somewhere on the internet about this but can't find it. I really do want to hear from someone at Bosch but the only number I can find is one of those dreaded 0870 numbers.

Has anyone else got one of these ovens that can enlighten me.

Here's an alternative number for you as found on www.saynoto0870.com

Hope this helps you out :)
  • Thanks arkonite-babe. I am always going to the site you mentioned but have not found it very helpful most of the time but probably would have looked just before ringing Bosch. I would love to find someone on one of these forums who has one of these ovens so I can compare before getting trapped on the phone for ages. I will certainly give this number a go if I do get in touch with Bosch. Nothing is mentioned in the handbook about length of time it should be on to cool down.

We have a Sharp combination oven, no big oven, don't need it as we never eat turkey at Christmas and our combi is on the worktop away from small hands.

Why were you transferring the chicken to the 'big oven'? Why heat up two appliances when one would have done?

Where is the combi oven situated? Is it anywhere near the big oven, the thermostat may be getting heated by that and not switching off.

We leave the door open on ours first to let the heat come oout of the oven while we eat our dinner, so no noisy cooling fan to listen to, so I don't know how long ours would take...

  • I have had two Panasonic combination ovens before (about ten years each) and only got a replacement for the last one because I fancied a change and got it free with clubcard vouchers at MFI.

My Panasonic oven had a cooling fan and would switch off in 5 minutes. We are a family of 5 adults and I love my cooking. Sometimes I would put the small oven on twice a day but twice a day at 20 minutes a time and cooling periods of 30 minutes each time does not make sense.

A large chicken would take over 1.1/2 hours to cook so I have got into the habit of putting it on combination for about 20 minutes so that it is has a good start then I am able to cook the roast potatoes, parsnips, stuffing, yorkshires etc. in about 45 minutes. If a I am cooking for more people I often turn the combination oven on low for a few minutes to keep things warm but if the fan is going to spend more time on than the oven I am concerned.

Anyway I am going to give Bosch a ring and hope I can get to speak to a person who is friendly and can re-assure me that this is o.k. and hardly costing anything to cool the oven down.

The book said the oven door must not be left open to cool down and thats all it says about the cooling fan. I have always left the door open (especially in the winter) because it helps to warm the house up. It does not stop the fan from operating.
  • Thanks for your comments ailuro2. I have just rung Bosch and spoke to quite a nice man who tried to reassure me that it would not be "A" rated if the fan used a lot of electricity. He said the fan was so small it would hardly use anything but am I convinced - I am not sure. I questioned why my former Panasonics fan turned off in 5 minutes and he said it must have been bigger but it was no noisier than the Bosch one is.

Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. We have the same problem with our new Belling "A" rated oven and the response from belling was that the fan was only 3 watts hence it does run longer but uses far less power than the old fans. It's still frustrating going into the kitchen after eating a meal and knowing the fan's still on.
