Lego duplo: your recommendations

Hi everyone,
I have been wondering recently what the best value for money lego duplos are. And since this is in fact a money-saving question rather than a lego question, I thought I'd try my favourite forum!!
So, here is the story: I am buying some lego duplo sets for my now 16-month daughter. I already have a couple of sets, such as LEGO Duplo Building Fun 5548 http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-5548-Duplo-Building-Fun/dp/B003F25LUE/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1337940565&sr=8-10 and LEGO® DUPLO® LEGOVille 5646: Farm Nursery and LEGO® DUPLO®Winnie the Pooh 5945 : Winnie's Picnic.
The latter ones are tiny and while they come with figures, they come with only a few pieces...
I though the 5548 was a good buy since it comes with 80 pieces, but it is clearly not enough.
Now I am not sure which bucket to buy - the deluxe seems too expensive and I am not sure if it is better value than the smaller ones..
So many legos to choose from and no idea how to get the most ouf of the money spent. Can anyone recommend any value for money purchases?
Thanks,
a grateful mom ;)

Have you considered a mixed lot from eBay? The vast majority of my duplo was 2nd hand and is in excellent condition. Some windows and wheel bases add to the fun, I have a few sets but they were never played with as much as the main bricks. A baseplate is also well worth its weight in gold,
