Hi all,

I cooked some beef in gravy from the receipe collection and my husband forgot the place it in the fridge. It's now two days old (in the fridge from yesterday) and I just want some reassurence that its ok. Two little ones, so I need to be sure. Sorry if its confusing, like a mad house here!

I wouldn't eat any meat product left out of the fridge for so long.

I wouldn't risk it with you little ones especially.

Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear, but I'm being honest.

I think I'd be tempted to make a small stew with carrots with it and let the adults eat it, but I dont think I'd give it to the kids. If it was non-meat then I might.
  • No, I'd definately get rid of it - its been quite warm recently - sorry - but its what i'd do just to be on the safe side.

Have to agree with everyone else - it's probably not a good idea to risk it now. If you were running a catering business and left something out of the fridge for three hours, it's considered to be no longer fit for consumption. I know that your home is different, but why take the risk?
  • When I did basic food hygiene certificate we were shown slides of how quickly bacteria multiplied at room temperature so I always err on the side of caution now. As pointed out more than a few hours at above fridge temp and a restaurant would be legally required to dispose as unfit for human consumption.
Having said that I have seen flatmates leave cooked meat and even chicken out overnight and then reheat it for their dinner and survive to tell the tale but I personally would not risk it and especially not with kids.
