hello all,
I've just started my own cleaning business and today noticed that my client had large dollops of old paint/gloss on her fireplace. She didn't know if it was made of marble (its about 1 inch thick) or not. But I need to be careful just in case that it is!
Thank in advance.

assume that it is hun. could you get a sharp blade (stanley or craft knife) and try to prise up the 'blob'? or scrape it away? any residue could perhaps be carefully wiped away with a cloth dampened with white spirit and then the area immediately wiped with a clean damp cloth?
you can also buy a specialist marble cleaner and every few months my OH cleans our (composite) marble fireplace and hearth and it comes up a treat! It is called HG marble polish and we purchased it from a local retailer specialising in fires and surrounds - cost about £7.99 for the bottle and it should last years as you only use a little.
If you have a cleaning business and notice that your clients have marble surrounds/hearths, it may be worth investing in a bottle of this and offering them a specialised service for a few quid - I can promise you the marble looks beautifull once done!0 -
If its anything like the HG mould remover is must be fantastic!

just scrape it off with a wallpaper scraper.. if it is proper marble not the cheap reconstituted crap then you can just use paint stripper.. we had a slate one painted white and a white marble one painted black..
If it is proper marble then you clean it with linseed oil every few months.. now.. cream limestone is a pig and a half!
you are less likely to damage proper marble than fake stuff.. if that helpsLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
