Shopper Discounts & Rewards scheme

I have just discovered that £10 a month has been deducted from my bank account for a while without my knowledge or permission. Shopper Discount & Rewards maintain that I must have signed up for this, but INEVER sign up for discount or shopping schemes (I don't shop enough). OK, they agree to refund the money, but I want to know how I can stop them doing it to other people. I have had a quick look on websites like Office for Fair Trading, Consumer Protection Agency, Trading Standards etc and I don't seem to see anyone who wants to take up the fight against this sort of attack on unwitting customers. I have written to W H Smith, from whom I made the purchase that started this deduction from my bank. I think the reason no-one has stopped this is that they are based in Switzerland.

I don't think you can stop them from doing that to other people, if you've reported them to whichever authorities (if your unsure contact Trading Standards or Consumer Direct and ask them for suggestions but it seems like you already have done) after that its really out of your hands.
The only thing you can do is let other people know about your experience, name and shame and hope others take note, we are at the end of the day all responsible for our own actions which means you have to hope people are going to be vigilant enough.0 -
