If you have a definitive answer to the above question, then quit your job and become a currency trader earning bazillions.

Personally I think the Euro along with every other fiat currency is heading for a currency crisis. It is a sure thing that every fiat currency in use today will go to its true value of nothing just like every single fiat currency throughout history.

To be fair, the Gold and Silver Standards haven't held up so well either.

My feeling is that monetary systems are unstable rather than any particular form of currency.

Some good deals at the moment - I got 1.22 in the Travelex sale yesterday and 1.23 when loading my currency card (I'm off to Amsterdam next week).

The interbank rate is currently 1.25.

Wait a bit longer and you will get a lot more Euros maybe even an infinate amount of zeros on the end.

I'm surprised you didn't advise his to buy Gold/Silver instead of Euros!

Personally I think a full Greek default and Euro exit are a sure thing. And I think when it happens you will get a better rate.

But either way, unless you are spending a very large amount of €, it ain't go make a huge difference. Maybe hedge your bets, buy half you intended spend now and half closer to the time?

Not that I disagree with anything you've said, but wouldn't a Greek exit automatically push the value of the Euro up?

After the dust has settled, yeah, I think I agree with that. But for the month or 2 before and then a period after, there will be so much uncertainty I think it weakens the Euro. Will be interesting to see what does actually happen after they default....

Gold and silver have always won, every time something challenges them as money they have a 100% record of being the money of first and last resort in times of crisis.
The thing about chaos is, it's fair.
