Insurance payout gone to wrong account

Options
We were recently burgled and have home insurance cover with Sainsbury’s bank. We have a monthly direct debit which comes out of our Barclays account which we have had for five years. When we first set up the policy we had a Lloyds bank account. We are on a debt management plan as we owed money on the Lloyds account along with some credit cards. We pay monthly through the CCCS an agreed amount. Sainsbury’s bank called us last week to tell us we had insurance payout of £6800 coming our way. The lady at Sainsbury’s asked my wife which account it was to be paid into and my wife told her the Barclays as this is where are premiums have been paid into and we haven’t used the Lloyds account in over five years. We found out today that the money has gone to the Lloyds which we no longer use. Are Sainsbury’s responsible for retrieving the money back and putting it into the correct account, namely our Barclays which we have used for the last five years?

You need to raise a complaint and see what happens, however its doen you a favour paying a creditor off
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

How did they manage to pay it into the wrong account unless you gave them the details for it?

  • If the account is not valid then I would expect the amount to be returned, not quickly though!

Or did you leave the account open due to the debt?

So you should just get another go at providing details for payment, I would suggest you will have to wait until they get the funds back which may take a long time.
