Does anyone know what this error is about.
I have received a cheque out of the blue for£6.14 of which £1.38 is interest for an admin error when my mortgage account was set up ( that was about 13 years ago and I redeemed my mortgage and went with another lender about 3 years ago) The letter is from Northern Rock Asset Management

How can you be scammed with a cheque getting paid into your account?0 -
Probably not for a £6 cheque but there are some common cheque scams.
i.e. you get a cheque sent randomly for a few ££££. Greed gets the better of you, you pay it in. Mystery person / company turns up and says can you please return the money, keep a few £££ for your trouble. You hand over money. Cheque turns out to be fraudulent and bounces many weeks or months later (can take months to undo) and you end up losing a lot of money.
Never underestimate the greed and stupidity of people.Thinking critically since 1996....0
