Well as my title says, I don't seem to be making the progress that I expected. But I just don't know what to do to speed things up, how did you/do you all keep motivated???

I know how you feel, i have only just started on my journey and i'm impatient that things are not happening quickly enough (it's been less than a week:)) I've found by coming on here and doing something small everyday (No going to the shop today saved £3) really helps with my motivation.
Good luck :TDEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -
Thanks yes, I was like that at first, but now I seem to find that I have read things over and over and have explored lots of ideas and now I seem to be giving people ideas. :-/0

Keep reminding yourself WHY you're scrimping and saving (and going without) the end result (debt free) will be so worth it in the end. When is your DFD?DEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -
I don't know as I am not on a debt management plan, I just decided enough was enough in November last year. Here I am now lol0

Hi
When I was in debt it helped me to see how far I had come, that motivated me to keep going. Also I had free or cheap treats every now and again to remind myself that life is for living not existing.
HTHFind out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Hi, I totally agree it is a hard slog and I can be very inpatient too- I torture myself by 'window shopping' for holidays and cars knowing full well that I can't have them for at least another 2 years..don't know why I do it, but guess I get bored and my logic is that I can spend a day browsing without actually spending- but then I get depressed about it lol and wish I could hurry my debts away. My only advice is to keep in your head how much happier and stress free you will be when you ARE free of debt, and how eventually you will have some spare cash for the nicer things in life. I have given myself 2 years to clear mine, which when you think about it, is not much of my life and then I can forget about it and enjoy! Good luck. Oh, and don't forget every now and then to give yourself a little treat to reward you for how well you're doing xx£21k of debt left to go and got until 2014 to clear it! :eek:CC: £14,000Loan: £1,100Loan: £6,1000

Hi Assj
At a guess you've already checked out the big savings you can make in your outgoings, and the usual checking you have the cheapest deal on everything etc so probably are not going to find anymore major savings there.
You say you are not making the progress you expected - do you mean you'd worked out a budget and decided you'd be able to clear £x per month but your debts are not actually reducing by that much? Do you keep a spending diary and check out what you actually spend in each area compared to what you budgeted to spend?
Are you part of any of the challenges on the forums? For some people that helps a lot - whether its things like the no spend challenge to help them stick to their budget, or things like the make £10 a day or make £12k in 2012 to increase income so they have even more than expected to put towards their debts.
Perhaps try something like that?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Like others have said - you've already cleared one debt, so it is moving fast!
I have found now that I'm getting impatient, but I have started counting down the months of payments left - like 2 till my student overdraft is cleared!
I'm not on a DMP - but know (or estimated) my DFD is December 2015. Got to love Excel and spreadsheets!DEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14!
Debt at Highest (November 2010) - circa £40k
