Old unilever pension

Hi, my mum has been receiving my dad's unilever pension since his death 20 years ago. She died at the weekend, and when we called unilever to inform them of this they requested that her bank account remain open for the time being. The cynical side of me thinks this is so they can retrieve any excess payment from this months pension. In older pension schemes was there ever provision made for the death of a surviving spouse? - she was a housewife her whole married life so was financially dependent on him.
I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. :rotfl:

It's probably because there will be an outstanding payment to be made form the last payment to the day she passed away. This should be pro rata for the month.

firstly it would be best to check the details of the pension scheme which could reveal key information.

i have found this website from direct gov which explains what happens to a pension when a person dies

    Sorry for your loss

The Unilever pension is usually paid on the 21st of the month for pension covering the whole month so yes, there may have been a small overpayment, also it may take time to stop next months payment going in (this is probably unlikely to happen though).

As far as I know there are no other benefits due from your fathers pension.

Here's a link to the scheme website for info.
