Re-Mortgage and wanting to add partner

Hi All,
I am shocked how hard it has been to find any information on this subject as I would have thought there are thousands of people who would have come across the same situation every year, such as when people getting married, so I figured I'd ask on here:
I have a mortgage with Halifax, I am out of the fixed rate so nothing to pay if I want to move to another lender. It is in my name only.
I would like to re-mortgage soon onto a fixed rate deal BUT I would also like to have my partner of 7 years added to the mortgage.
Can anyone advise if you think I should get my partner on the mortgage with the existing lender or should I just have the new lender deal with this, also does anyone know what extra costs am I likely to incur to get her added in either situation?
Many thanks.

Hi there,
If you are going to remortgage anyway, then would suggest you wait till then.
It will cost anywhere between £250 and £550 depending upon many variables.
Obviously your partner will also be subject to credit searches etc. on either mortgage that she enters onto..

Thanks for Prompt Reply Dave Ham.
Do you (or anyone else reading) know if lenders will be able to process an application to see if we are jointly accepted before I pay out any money.
Although I do want my partner to have the security of half the property and one day we will be married, I'm concerned that any rejected joint application might affect me then just getting a re-mortgage on my own.. is this likely? Once we apply jointly are we then doomed to be treated as such even if I apply on my own?
Many thanks again for any advice.0 -
You can certainly apply first, in fact this is the best way to progress.
Whilst there is all sorts of opinion regarding financial associates etc. unless you are aware your partner has some real uglies on her credit file then there is no real risk in proceeding this way.
Either that, or get your partner to sign up for the stat. Experian and Equifax credit files and put these in front of a decent broker and they will tell you quickly...
