Can equifax keep information on my file that they know to be incorrect

Hi Can anyone advise?
RBOS have finally admitted to both me and Equifax that they have put an incorrect (by 3 years!) default date on my file. However, I am told that I have to wait over 3 weeks before they send their updates to Equifax to have this corrected.
I have put an offer in for a house and I need to apply for a mortgage now - not in 3 weeks!
Can I put pressure on Equifax, as they know the information is incorrect, to change it without waiting for a routine update?

No you cannot. The only way that information can be changed is by RBOS. Equifax can put a notice of dispute on your account to say that you are disputing the information, but they cannot change it. The company alone can change it. Nothing you can do until RBOS sort it out, sorry.0 -
If you get the admission in writing and forward that to equifax they can remove it as under the data protection act all data must be accurate and therefore as you have notified the data manager (equifax) and they can see it is inaccurate. It has to be removed ASAP.
As equifax is the data manager in this case they will remove it faster. BUT you must have either a letter or email from the bank.0 -

I agree - incorrect data is in breech of the act - and if you lost house as a result you would have good case for damages - you could even threaten to prosecute if they dont correct the data which might spur them on more quicklyWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0
