Can i suggest you go to the GBBO (getting british businesses online) website and see if there are any Google juice bars near you?
Google are running juice bars where businesses (or people thinking of starting businesses) can go for FREE advice on websites and google products. One of these is Yolo which is the google free website builder. It has loads of templates and easy to use for first timers. By going through GBBO you can get a free domain name for 2 years too! I must say I'd heard the same thing (after we'd signed up for a few 1&1 hosting accounts at work....) but never actually experienced a significant difficulty. From time to time we'd have a problem accessing the mail server, but it would come back after a short time so no real harm done. I've also been hosting my own web site (which is a small personal site, nothing fancy) on there for about four years, again with no problem.
I have no direct experience of the service I mentioned, I should say, only that they offer it.0 -
The test of a webhost is much more about how they deal with things when they do go wrong as much as how often things go wrong. In the best will in the world, unless you are spending masses of money things will eventually go wrong.
With 1&1, admittedly a long time ago, our website went down every day at 4pm. After a lot of emails 1&1 basically said the issue was someone on the shared server had a scheduled job to upload a 3GB database which basically overloaded the MySQL db server and resulting in the server having to be rebooted.
Excellent I thought, they;ve found the root cause. What did they do about it? Absolutely nothing at all. Asked if they were going to terminate the other user? Move our DB onto a different server? No and no.0 -
If anyone is looking for a good UK shared server host, then take a look at VIDAHOST!
Top quality so far and the support is second bar none - email replies to queries at 11:05pm UK time - what more can you ask for?0 -

I use 000webhost for my hosting, its free, and for a small and new site like yours it will be perfect, unless you want to upload loads of videos and mass's on content then you may have to look elsewhere.
You could also try wordpress (blog style), if your new to designing websites its an easier option and can make it easier to get your content up and online, you can then decide if you want to pay for your own domain and host with them, but you still get all the features.
With regards to content you must keep it unique and copyright free, meaning dont go and copy and paste a load of websites content because google will pick up on this and penalize your site badly.

On this advise I created a web page and it was fantastic. However I work fom three different computers all have diferent versions of Internet Explorer. I hate Interent 7 and it is far to big to download on one of my older computers. Then problem is when I save my work in Wix (thats fine) but after I have finished for the night and return the next day, no matter which computer I log into Wix fom, the IT WILL NOT OPEN MY ACCOUNT, so the web page has gone. At first I thought I may be confusing Wix by logging in from different versions of Internet Explorer, but No this is not the problem. I contacted Wix support who said I had to download Interent Explore 7. So I worked from my newest computer with this version of Exploer, ut hey ho, guess what, it still disappears. In order to be able to get it to come back. I have to restore my system each time. Now this is not right. Wix support is NOT helpful at all. Do I really want to upload/launch my site which too hours to create to such an enstable host. Can anyone tell me why this happens please. If not cane anyone recommend another free web building site for me to use.
Many thanks0 -
