Good Evening Everybody,
I know this is another default thread and so I appreciate you taking a look at it.
3 years ago I received a default from Egg - I had a loan for £10,000 and near the end of the term I became a bit complacent/busy with other things and missed a £99 over several months. It was referred to a Debt Recovery Agent and I was given a default.
Now, it's my own fault for not paying the money and not keeping up with my finances however, I feel for the amount of £99 and on an otherwise healthy account paying back the £10k.
I have tried a few times to get this removed as this is a frustrating blemish on my credit report. I have tried the learn money tip of asking to see the credit agreement and the original default however they are refusing to send anything because my account is closed. Is this true? Any other ways of getting hold of a copy?
I have been down the route of trying to get some empathy from them but this hasn't worked either!
Any advice would be really appreciated. Again, I know it's my own fault but would like to do all I can to get this sorted.
Many thanks

Unfortunately as the default is an accurate reflection of your account (and not a mistake etc.) I don't think there's much you can do. I've not heard of anyone getting a default removed in this kind of case although it might have happened...
I've been in a similar position - my one default and the late payments on my record are all due to laziness, not really wanting to think about my debts and forgetfulness rather than not actually being able to afford to pay. Makes me sick that I've ruined my credit rating for 6 years for no good reason but it's certainly helped me to manage my money loads better now!Savings target: £25000/£25000

Thank you very much for the reply - I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes becomes a little bit lax when it comes to financial responsibilities!
I've heard of a few people who have had them removed through various methods. Learn money website have their own strategy requesting various documents etc. they even have one for defaults for under £500!! £99 is a ridiculous amount, especially in comparison to the original debt.
Thanks again for your help0 -
Does anyone know if what egg are saying is correct in terms of the request for the original default notice; with them subsequently turning it down because of my acct being closed?0

I really wouldnt waste your time stressing about it. You admit yourself that it was your fault. There is absolutely nothing, but nothing you can do about it.
Defaults have happened for a lot less than £99 so all I can suggest is that you just accept it and wait for it to drop off your credit file in
6 years from the default date.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

There is no obligation in the Consumer Credit Act for them to provide you with a copy.
You could send a subject access request under the Data Protection Act. If they have a copy then that should provide it.
However, they are also not obliged to keep a copy. All they have to do is keep a record of when one was sent. Not a copy itself. So there may be nothing for them to provide a copy of.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
