I am currently renewing my mortgage, and just completed all legal documents. However i returned home today to find the solicitors have sent me my title deeds, i was under the impression you recived these when you payed off your mortgage.
Where do i stand legally on making mortgage payment if i physically hold the title deeds
Any feedback is welcome
Cheers

A lot of companies do this now.
You still legally owe the debt and have to pay it.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Lenders don't want the paper documents any more. Their rights are protected by electronic Land Registry records.
So no mistake has been made. Calm down.Where do i stand legally on making mortgage payment if i physically hold the title deeds0 -
Anything for nothing seems to be the future.
I understand now after being on this site how when my grandad says the world is a worse place - how much truth he actually speaks.
Where there is a blame there is a claim.
Miss sold this, miss sold that - i dont get compensation for buying in leads frmo thickos who want to borrow 10x their income and twice the value of their home etc. This country is becoming (if it isnt already) a joke.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Unfortunately there are a few (becoming more?) bad apples0 -
The OP asked a question and was answered by O4u.
Its not really called for to refer to him/her as a bad apple etc.,
It would be nice if people were courteous to new posters.
I sometimes wonder why any new posters should ever want to post on this forum.
OP
Solicitors and Banks do not have the storage space for deeds now. So there is a central record at the land Registry and your property will have what is known as a "charge" on it registered by the mortgage company. This is a record of your mortgage and means you wont be able to sell the property until the charge is released, and this will happen when your mortgage is paid off. So if you still have a outstanding mortgage when you want to sell your property it will get paid off then, or you wont be able to sell it.

I did answer in the first response to this thread. You do wonder what some peoples motives are. Why else would the question be asked "where do i legally stand on making the mortgage payments".
The only reason(s) that question gets asked is if theyre disputing or dont want to pay what is owed.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. a) It's not a 'f#*k up' (sic) as you wrote in your subject line
b) You don't hold the Title Deeds. You hold a copy of what's held at the Land Registry
c) Yes, you still have to pay your mortgage

it's yours! it's all yours!!!

The OP is literally the full head shaker. What an absolute tube the OP is - first of all claiming there has been a f*** up and then questioning whether he/she has to make payments under the mortgage.
Someone referred to him/her as a bad apple - correct. It's folk like this that has put this country into the position it's in now.
Shameless bump for this thread back to the top so others can have a nice wee chuckle at picturing OP saying "My precious"0
