Are kids shoe sizes the same as adults?

I’ve seen a pair I want to buy in Next. They go from a kid’s size 9 up to 5. I thought once kids sizes go back into single figures they were the same size as adults – but I’m confused as they go up to a size 5 - which I thought was most definitely an adult size. Maybe they are a few sizes different so a size 5 is adult size 3?

I'va always assumed that they're the same - I'm a size five and I've occasionally bought kid's shoes because they're cheaper I've found they're better width-wise too.

That's ace! I'm a tiny size 3 and some styles arent available in this size - I have found this happening more over the last few years.

I'm too embarassed to go over the kid's shoe section and try them on - so I'm pleased I can order these online!

There is no overlap; child size goes up to 13½ (8½ in, 25.5 barleycorns) then adult size starts at 1 (8⅔ in and each size up continues the progression in barleycorns).

Im a 4 and get loads of kids shoes especially trainers & ballet pumps.

Sorry to dive into OP's thread but do those of you that buy kids shoes find they are a more narrow fit? I have narrow feet and really stuggle to find shoes that fit, so I'm hoping buying kids shoes will be a good solution for me (and cheaper too!)

I find for me they are more narrow (my feet aren't that narrow).

The only type of kids shoes that I have found the same width would be the skater shoes and hi tops.

I'm a 4 and sometimes buy kids shoes as they are cheaper. One good example is the Adidas Predators I got for playing rugby, I paid £30 for mine in kids size, adult size is about £100:money:
