Default / delinquent account

Hi
I was wanting to know what the difference between a default account and a delinquent account. I have a delinquent account with the Halifax on my Experian account and I was wondering what the difference between the two are and how it affects my chances of getting credit?
The delinquent account was placed back in 2006 and I have since paid all the monies owed on the account.
I am in the process of applying for a mortgage with my wife. How will the affect the application. I have a notice of correction on the experian report stating that I lost my job back in 2005 and this is the reason I couldnt pay the money owed.
Any help and assistance would be gratefully received.

PLEASE HELP. I could do with some information from the professionals on here.
Experian have said that it isnt a default it is just showing that I missed a fair few consecutive payments, this is classed as delinquent.0 -
A quick google search says that 'delinquent account' just means any account that is past due - so an account where you haven't paid by the agreed time. Some pages say it's 30 days or more overdue, some say it's an account that's at least 3 months in arrears. A defaulted account is one where you have not paid for so long that you have not met your credit agreement.
If it was marked as delinquent in 2006, it should drop off your record this year sometime which should help your credit.Savings target: £25000/£25000
