Buying whilst working abroad

Is it possible to get a uk mortgage and buy in the uk whilst working abroad on 4 yr contract.
Basically, my partner will be working in South Africa, on a 4 yr contract, paid into his UK account. BUT will not be a UK resident for those 4 years as he will only be in the UK for 30 days max.
I don't earn enough to have a mortgage on my own.
Will mortgage providers still lend to us?
All advice welcome.:)

Will you be living in the property or moving out to SA?
It will be tricky, especially if the role is with a new company that he has no history with. The J is a Financial Advisor-This site doesn't check anyone's status and as such any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice. I plan to live in the property in the UK.
We view his working abroad as a way to earn the money to buy a property here.
I understand the concern with trying to do this just after changing his job.0 -
İ tried to take out a mortgage on my uk home whilst i was abroad and was firmly rejected by both banks and building society-i had to be in the uk and living in the property unless it was a BTL--a mortgage is for the home you live in!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Unless he is working for a serious, multinational blue chip company in a professional capacity I think this won't be possible. The J is a Financial Advisor-This site doesn't check anyone's status and as such any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.
