Will they honour cheaper price

Here goes,

Curry's has a web site. It shows their web site prices and their shop prices (which are generally higher). You can purchase off their site, but arrange to have the product reserved and you can collect from the shop. To me this was much the same as ordering from the shop and obviously collecting from there as well.
I popped into my local shop and ordered the product, an LCD TV. Although the shop price was about £1750, they agreed to honour their web price of about £1500. This was last week. There was no stock at the time, and the TV will be delivered on Tuesday 13th. They have already taken payment from my account.
Now, I checked on the web site today and they have reduced the price by £150. I have not yet received the TV, so can I go into the shop and ask for a refund of £150?

cheers,
nick

You can ask, but they're not obliged to give it to you as you have entered into an agreement to buy the TV at that price.

Have curry's got a price match policy? If so, you might be able to argue that angle. Alternatively, do they have a no quibble return policy?, if so, you could simply return it as soon as they say its ready to pick up. Of course, you may find they will just agree to cancel your order but their reputation for customer service doesn't fill me with confidence.

DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THEM WITH A BARGEPOLE!
  • I believe that as you actually purchased online, you are protected by distance selling regulations so you could return the product within 7 days of receipt to obtain a refund and then order again at lower price. Explain this to them and they may agree to reduce price as it saves them a bit of hassle and admin costs.

Rather than taking delivery could you not just cancel and then re-order?

But the OP didn't purchase online, the shop simply honoured the online price?
    Gone ... or have I?

sorry, i missed that part. OP will have to find out what their returns policy is.

  • advise you go into the store, as no delivery has taken place they should match the price, you will need proof of the web offer price as it changes continually, it would be better if you do this quickly, they do have a 7 day price match, hope this helps

Thanks everyone for your help and comments.
    Visited the store today.
Yes, they will honour the new price.
I have to take delivery first then pop back to the store for the refund.
I think Curry's have treated me very well and their prices are very competative, not much more than a Froogle search.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
    (No I don't work for Curry's, just a customer)
    cheers,

Trying not to be too sceptical, but is this their usual company policy or did the person just say that to fob you off.

If it's not their usual policy then I would get a written confirmation, then they can't deny it. Once you have the TV delivered you could worse off by the said amount.
