Reclaiming tax 11/12? Am I entitled?

Forgive me as I am quite new to this, as I have usually always earned above the personal allowance.

As I only worked half of the year my pay has only amounted to ust over £6000 this year. I have paid £600 tax.

Am I entitled to all of this back? Some of it? (there are some numbers further up on the p60, a new style thats a bit confusing, talking about LEL, PT, UAP. Are these relevant?)

If I can claim it back, do I have to do it myself or is it all done automatically by HMRC?

Thank you for any help!

if you are saying that you only earned 6000 last tax year and you paid 600 in tax and you claimed no JSA then phone up HMRC (try 8am ish ) and explain the situation

Totally forgot, I did indeed receive roughly 1 months of JSA, slightly less I believe (no other benefits)

Will this affect it? Sorry for not including that before.

I was also on a PGCE teacher training course which paid £440 a month for April/May/June but even with those payments + the months JSA + my salary for part of the year I still don't think it quite hits the personal allowance.

Sorry was the £440 a month earnings or was it some kind of bursary from the course provider?

So you were on your course April to June, claimed JSA July then worked August to next April?

Exactly how much tax you're owed back depends on exactly what you were paid for the year as a whole including earnings from all jobs and any JSA.

As a first step, you should call your tax office. Maybe they will have all the information they need to correct it there and then or maybe they'll need you to post them something like your P45/P60. It's not important that you know what you're owed to claim it. You can write a letter just asking them to review your tax for the year with the evidence and they will calculate it for you.

Also to add: those random letters like LEL etc. relate to national insurance thresholds. It may set out earnings at different rates but there should also be a total which is relevant for income tax. You can't reclaim your NI.

I believe the £440 was a grant to train (£4000 split into 9 I think!) no payslips or tax so I'm not sure if that's counted.

I think this p60 just covers this job, do you get a yearly p60 from HMRC?

Even with those 3 grant payments + Jsa + pay it only comes to under £7000 before tax. I think this £6000 figure us after the £600 tax (says gross income)

The "bursary" is probably tax free.
See if the bursary provider can explain.
