"High-earning council tenants will face paying full market rate for homes"- Telegraph

The fact that couples earning more than £60k are allowed to occupy council housing is rediculous
Why? If they don't want to buy, why should only those on Benefits have secure tenancies?
I agree with them paying the proper rent though.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
My thoughts are simple if not PC
All tenancy at market rate and all on shorthold tenacy agreements.
That is fair if you cant afford to live somewhere join the rest of us and move where you can afford.
Councils could make a profit why not then they can reduce council tax.
Housing benifit should be set nationaly. that may mean all the work shy have to move so be it.
real disability should get a higher rate again set nationaly.
And Jobseekers benifit should not be paid in cash.
Lastly it should not pay to reproduce that is partly why we are in this mess. Way to many young families producing kids for money and houses then kicking them out onto the streets to restart the cycle.0 -
To me it should be common sense that high earning tenants should not be allowed to own other property or be in social housing when there is no need.
I recall a thread on here a couple of years back where one person was earning £100k+ and living in a council house - makes my blood boil when there is really genuine need out there and family homes were being taken by people with no kids and huge incomes. It just does not make sense.Thinking critically since 1996....0
