Help needed with personal loan

Ok, so the short story for you guys, but with the details.

I have just recently split up with my partner of just over 2 years, and now we're both trying to move on they have now decided all the help with finances they gave me over the years they want paying back - and now.

The long and short of it is that I need to pay them around £8500, now I earn quite a reasonable salary, and having just moved back in with my rents to save pennies and (ultimatly) save up a deposit for a house. I am currently earning £17000 a year, although this is to drop to £16000 in April/May plus bonuses which work pay our based on performance.

The only financial commitments I have is to pay my rents £200 a month and I need to pay something towards my credit card balance which is just short of £200. Ideally i'd like to pay the credit card off, so was thinking this relativly small amount could be joined onto what I need to raise.

I havn't had the most perfect credit history, falling behind on various car payments and bills, although the last 12 months has certainly been alot more positive, largely due to the help from my ex, but they are really putting the pressure on me now to generate these funds as soon as possible.

So, I am concious of one major factor, which is every time I apply for something and I am turned down there is even less chance of being accepted elsewhere. The last time someone 'credit checked' me would probably be when I renewed my phone contract in January, before that would probably be a good 6 months, so in that respect I have been quite 'inactive'.

Can anyone reccommend or point me in the direction of a lender that would guaruntee to accept me for a loan for, say £9000, without any major risks of being rejected, as this is my ultimate fear?

would recommend you go to moneysupermarket.com and have a play with their loans calculator with experian... if you are honest about your credit history on there it will give you an idea of your likely rating and companies who loan to people in your position.
