Wow - that's one of the saddest things I've ever read on here.

Why? I'm not going into debt for it I'm not spending anyone else's money but my own

That a bag is enough to fill your soul...just because it has a certain label on it.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Not necessarily I have other things that make me happy too I just like buying nice things I don't see a problem with that. If getting something I like makes me sad then I'm sad in your book but I don't agree.
  • Save up your spending money? I tuck a little bit away every week or so, then[STRIKE] if [/STRIKE]when I find something I simply must have I can buy it without guilt! If I have (let's say) £103.23 in my current acc I'll move £3.23 to savings. I do this every few days.
Sometimes I'm enjoying the saving so much I dump £100 into my proper savings acc, but as I save there anyway that's a bonus.

OMG I do exactly that! Like skimming/embezzling my own account! Ahah awesome ;)

I have two jars too for saving small amounts. A sealed tin from the £1 shop and a whiskey jar. Just before bed all my £2 and £1 coins go in the jar and the rest goes in the whiskey jar. Every three months I have a count up. Usually goes on a holiday.
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

I agree - its really sad - could probably get one from asda for 10th of the price and spend the rest on bills / necessities???

I feel sorry for you. Even when a poster had made clear they can afford to spend that amount of money on a handbag, you still, so blinded by bitterness, can't grasp that they already have their bills and necessities covered so they don't need to buy some cheap, low-quality tat from Asda.

If that's all you can afford, then that's fine, but if you want to judge others for buying quality when they can afford it, then you should be prepared to be judged for your choices.;)

Balance the grasping "I WANT!" against the modest "I need". Other than that there's no helping you.

As long as it's a healthy balance, based on the hard financials, of course?

Only ever allowing yourself to have what you 'need' is not healthy especially when you can afford to give in to your 'wants' now and again.

The bottom line for clothing is whether you're comfortable in it - not just whether it's easy to wear, but if it's appropriate for what you need it for and if it makes you look and feel good.

Some people are perfectly happy to slob around in a 5-for-£1 t shirt, but these people are generally at the lower-end of society and don't care about anything.

If this was a regular habit of yours OP, and you were getting into serious debt over it, I think it would be more of a problem than it is. It seems as if you are going through a bit of a spending spree phase and it is bothering your conscience already. People with real bad spending habits dont recognise this happening and keep going till they are in real hardship.

Do you need these things? Is it that you haven't treated yourself in a while and could do with some new shoes, tops etc. When you have kids it is easy to neglect yourself a bit and think of their needs. Spending on yourself then feels a bit odd and you can feel as if you have to justify it all. Or is this all a bit of retail therapy to make you feel better about something else entirely? Getting to the root of it will help you address it.

When you have been doing this recently do you pay by cash or card? May seem like a silly question but if you are on a weekly budget it is far easier to stick to it if you withdraw the cash. Once you have spent it, that's it and it's gone. Much harder to justify spending on non essential items when it has to stretch the week.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I do understand your viewpoint but I don't agree with it. If people want to spend their own money, money they can afford to spend, then I'm happy for them to spend it. What I choose to do with own cash is neither here nor there. I suggest you try to be a tad less jugemental about people you know nothing about. You sound rather unpleasant
