How not to destoy my fireplace

I've just bought a new fireplace. Portland stone with a cast iron and polished nickel arch inset and a granite hearth.
Can anyone tell me the best way to maintain each component, specifically the insert. We were told to use a little baby oil on it but I'm skeptical so if anyone has any tips I'd be grateful.

First of all do not wipe the inset with a damp cloth which I did!!!! It went rusty right infront of my eyes..... I had to ring the manufacturere who told me to use fine wire wool and WD40 to remove it.. I was terrified but it did work.. Now I just wipe it over and if I feel it needs more I would use a touch of baby oil and buff. As for the stone surround I bought a bottle of specialist stuff from the manufacturer. And the hearth I still wipe over with a damp cloth then buff with a dry one. Just to point out though that I have only ever cleaned the surround once other than that I wipe it over with a dry cloth.
Sorry not much help but just simple things really.0
