Bank Debt 23 Years old

Hi wondered if anyone can suggest what I do? I was married and everything was in my name. Are bank account was Nat West and me and my husband split up. The overdraft was to the limit and each month I got charges. We had a lot of debts which I ignored as I was struggling with the breakup. I eventually went to the cab who took matter over. I set up arrangements and things got payed. The bank debt had gone to over £400 with charges. I am still paying them. I have asked for what the debt was before all the charges but they can,t tell me as its too old. I wonder if theres anything I can do to stop paying this as know I am paying charges. I pay £16 a month but am not working as disabled now.
As this was a bank account there is no signed agreement. The have told me they only keep records for 6 years.

I think in your position, I would be writing one last time to tell them that if they could not produce a proper statement of the account, I would stop paying, They could take it to court, but if they did so, they would have to produce the information you are requesting ....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Stop paying..immediately. If they are so stupid as to take you to court, they will have to prove their case, and then, if the debt is as old as you say, and you have paid as much as I suspect, the court would kick them into touch and award you compensation. There comes a point when the debt was long since paid and all that is left is increasing, never ending fees. This isn't fair and the court wouldn't stand for it. There was a case a few years ago when a company tried to so the same thing to another family. The judge found against them, wrote off the debt and awarded all costs against them. This is absolutely ridiculous, so stop, immediately. Write and tell them you're not paying another penny.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
