  • Yet another resurrection of this old thread but relevant. As mentioned previously, it comes up top in a search.

Upon the introduction of new FCA regulation on 26 October 2015, the use of an 0845 number, indeed any 084, 087 or 09 number, will no longer be legal for this purpose.

    Try 0345 instead.

I haven't had one fail yet.

Following Peckles advice, I have applied for and received my deeds from Santander and had my 50p mortgage retention fee waived. It was an easy and speedy process. Well done Santander.
However what I did discover was that my wife's maiden name was on them. This is a result of us purchasing the house a year prior to getting married. Although the then Abbey National changed the mortgage details to her new married name they did not have the deeds changed or hadn't subsequently informed Land Registry. Obviously I don't know if it was their or my responsibility as it was 40 years ago.
Nevertheless I have been in touch with LR and been asked to furnish them with a copy of my wedding licence where they will then amend the LR details. This I have done.

Have now received the amended title. Have to say that between Santander and the Land Registry. I am somewhat surprised but mainly delighted that the procedure was carried out by both without any problems somewhat unusual these days.
  • The 0800 Santander number to call for the department that has access to the Abbey mortgage details is 0800 085 1428. I phoned today and received a very helpful response.
