Discharged today - couple of questions

Dear all,
firstly can i say what a fantastic resource these boards are, i would never even have thought i could go BR but i did and have to say today one year on i have the most incredible feeling of that weight being lifted.
I will still be under an IPA for two more years (Scottish system), 24 payments to go but wondered:
a) can and should i look to check my credit file and will things start to say settled etc, or will that not happen until the Trustee discharges me?
b) can i ask the Co-op (love my cashminder) for a cheque account? Not overly bothered but would be useful for children's club fees etc. Or again is this something for post IPA?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Polly, Congratulations on your discharge
a) Wait for 2 or 3 months then do your file clean up.
Your accounts remain marked as defaulted. But you'll need to get all three credit files and make sure that:
- The default date is on or before your BR date.
- The current balance is marked as settled/satisfied in some way.

NB: You can't order it online, they would rather you pay £12 don’t do that just print off the application form, P.O. for £2 and post this recorded delivery.
They are £2 each for paper copies. Some people have used the online ones and have said the information wasn't as good compared to the paper copies.

b) I know that some members have had luck with the Nationwide cash card + account and the Natwest Step Account. Plus of course the Barclays Basic account ,you can then have online banking facilities. But a full account with a bank is pretty slim until your BR has fallen off your credit files.
Best wishes

Thank you so much If, i'll be putting a note in my diary for 3 months time and take it from there.
Good luck all, it really does fly by, it's the worrying about the unknown that's the hard part.Weight: need to lose 71lbs - lost to date 0lbs
