Hold on, we are talking about a Union Jack. why does everone want to burn/destroy it?
In some countries, you would be killed and dragged around the streets for such a crime.
Its just a flag, not an extension or anything to worry about long term.
How about getting in the spirit of things and just waiting till it comes down.
I realise you think the birds are relying on you for food but mother nature is well prepared for them and they wont go hungry.0 -

And will likely have a trampoline in the garden as well!!
Joking aside, there was a similar issue near to where I live recently with a large England flag, however, the council took exception to it and the owner was forced to take it down because it breached planning regulations.
Perhaps the OP could 'discuss' the problem with the local authority who may offfer advice.0 -
Since when had the St Georges flag have anything to do about football?
The same logic as why Scotland football fans adorn themselves with the flag of St. Andrew or the rampant lion - both of which have nothing to do with football.
And - both of which are arguably better than those silly Tam o' Shanter hats with offcuts of Rebekah Brooks's mane hanging from them!0 -

I see it every day when I go to work.
So I wouldn't bank on your neighbour taking his down after the Jubilee/Olympics/Euro 2012.
Sorry!
If he had put up a flag pole it would be there more permanently. However it sounds like he's just duct taped it to his garage so I doubt it will be there foreverThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Since when had the St Georges flag have anything to do about football? It's the national flag of England...
I have no idea why the English love the Union flag so much, the Welsh, Scottish and N.I don't!! It's a vile flag!
Lord SVS
The flag of our country is vile? Absolutely ridiculous. It's only the nationalist section of Wales, Scotland and NI that hate it. Anyone who is proud of being British will like the flagThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have you thought of talking to your neighbour as I doubt he reads this forum for your opinion on his Flag.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

No it's a Union Flag unless he's on a boat. For someone so Patriotic I would have thought you'd at least know the correct name.
Although that is technically true the union flag is referred to by the vast majority of People as the union jack. Therefore in the 21st century it is more than acceptable to call it the Union Jack. I always find this a good example of how a name can evolve over time just by how people refer to itThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
