Pay a bunch of youths to steal his flag, knock on his door while they drape it round their arms and run away like superman.

Other than that not a huge amount you can do except talk to him.

Sounds like a simple case of Nimbyism.

Unfortunately people are wrongly scorned for being patriotic, or are considered racist/bigotted simply for displaying a Union flag. I've got a british car with a union jack logo on the bonnet and I've been accused of being a BNP supporter and other such rubbish.

Patriotism should be encouraged, not hindered. be proud that your neighbour is not scared off by politically correct nonsense and interference and embrace the celebrations of the Jubilee with him.

If by "Is there anything else I can do" you mean some form of enforcement to make him take it down, then the answer is no (well unless you try to get an injunction against him but that will cost you shedloads of cash and isn't guaranteed to be successful anyway). I'm sure there are plenty of practical things you can do - like sticking a nice big sharp pole next to your fence so that the flag catches on it and rips to shreds, but its just going to result in a war over the fence.

The birds will survive a few weeks without food - some of them will get used to it anyway, and he will presumably take it down when the jubilee or Euro 2012 is over.

We have a small back garden. Our garage starts where the house ends, so one side of our garden is predominantly the garage wall. There are bird feeders along that wall. The flag is huge, and comes well over the feeders.

    Seems a bit harsh........

    Harsh, but true.

There are far greater ways to be patriotic. Support troops, do charity work, DO something.

Simply paying money for a bit of fabric to stick out the window does nothing for our country, except possibly irritate the neighbours. ;)

'Sounds like a simple case of Nimbyism'.

Of course it's nimbyism - but it literally IS in his back yard so he's got every right to be fed up with it, surely

I'm sorry I don't agree at all. I don't think being proud of your country by displaying the national flag makes you a "moron".

Whats your view on all the union jack bunting that will go up soon? Are they all erected by morons as well?

When troops parade off to war and crowds wave union jack flags are they morons as well?

Once the birds get used to it - it may be ok.
You could just wait till England get knocked out in the early stages.
England should be coming home on the 19th June, so not long to suffer then.

Are they available for the cars yet, so we can spot the ... on the roads?
