I was going to suggest renting a car too - good one Mildredalien!!! That way he can still drive on trips but you can reduce your outlay dramatically. It shocked me that car insurance was so massive compared to your food - fresh fruit and veg are so important.
Forgive me if I am wrong but can you change elec company and still pay off arrears from current company? Someone else will be better advised on this...just thinking you could then have better deal!
Are your mobile phones near end of contract? If so, lookat getting a good deal e2save did a fab deal which worked out as 2 a month! Going via Quidco would get 30 pounds too:rotfl:0 -
I hadn't thought about hiring a car, I assumed it'd be too expensive. Might have to have a look at prices and see whether it'd be worth doing. My biggest fear would just be that at least with our own car, if anything happens to it then it's our decision how and when to get it fixed etc etc.
About the electric - the last time we tried to change companies (which is how we found out about the arrears) they said if we left we'd have to settle the entire bill0
