well...I had used the energy and the meter readings matched the bills......but the way they converted the units used to kWh (which is what they charge you for) was wrong, the calculation is not shown but basically they were converting using the old imperial method instead of the new metric....my meter is metric
http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/consumer_advice/latest_meters_pic.shtml
so imperial conversion of eg 288 units = 9053kWh = £303
metric conversion of 288 units = 3199= £107
I was being charged imperial for a metric meter, hope that makes sense.
I intend taking it further/back to watchdog/to ombudsman/whoever will listen to publicise this.....think of it 1million meters exchanged in a year ....how many are checked that billing is corrected?
Wasn't there another poster on here last year who seemed to be paying a fortune for their gas? I vaguely remember a thread running on the subject.0 -
It went really well & my little man was fab! He didnt cry, get scared, whinge or moan once, even though he was so hungry!! 5 min after he came round he wolfed down a full sandwich, packet of crisps a dozen cocktail sausages & an apple!tigerwhite wrote: »Hope your DS's op goes well this afternoon. will he be staying in?
I'm 5 pages still behind, god you lot did a load of gas bagging last night!!!!:D
When british gas made a mess of the village halls (Im treasurer) gas account I looked into what I would be expecting in compensation if I handed the case over to the ombudsmen & it was around 10%. British Gas gladly gave me the 10% when I pushed them for it. Although we had experienced the opposite to you and were owing them nearly £4000 after they installed a new meter then didnt set it up on their data base. For months & months on end I was sent from department to department, because technically we didnt exist! It drove me round the twist! I used to ring every week and tell them I must owe them thousands & all they ever did was 'escalate' my call!! Which translates to 'we will not do anything & nobody will ring you back!' I'd beg them not to escalate it & to give me the number of someone capable of dealing with it but it literally went on for nearly 2 years, until oneday I found an employee with a brain cell! Anyway go for atleast 10% & threaten them with the ombudsman if you get no joy after a few months. Also makesure they refund you and not just credit your account.calmspirit wrote: »well I am still negotiating with EDF they so far admit to £949 overcharge....but I have queried their figures and this is likely to go up!
But.....a measly £50 compensation for spending the winter in darkness dues to quilts and blankets nailed to windows and doors and freezing cold because too scared to turn boiler on due to cost......now I know it wasnt my boiler! Also used kettle and electric heater which I would not have done if I wasnt scared to turn gas on! gas would have been cheaper! Interest on the £1k plus they had of mine???
Still reading back but anyone know if Price check is a gogo? Or if I wait & input them at a later date, will they compare at Asdas price at time of purchase? or will they compare with Asdas price on the day they are submitted?0
