Council tax and electoral roll

My tenants have recently vacated a property I was letting out. I am leaving the property unoccupied while I get some work done to put it on the market. Can I claim the council tax exemption for an unoccupied property AND go on the electoral roll at the address? I am not currently on the electoral roll anywhere and would rather be on it at the consituency my property is in. Are they going to say I can't be on the ER if I'm not actually living at the property?

If you don't live at the property you can't be on the electoral roll for that address. Why don't you want to be on the ER for the property you're currently living in?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

You wont be able to register on a property which is empty , you have to be resident in the property.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
