    (i) You're assuming that your State Pension Age will be 65: God knows what the rules will be in 8 years time. The Shadow of the Valley of Brown covers us all.

(ii) "Married man's pension": eh? You might be well advised to get an official estimate of how big your State Pension will be (assuming that they are deigning to supply such estimates at the mo').

(iii) "if i died would my widow receive anything?": an excellent question to which I do not know the answer (but feel it ought to be "yes"). But someone here will know.

There is no such thing as a married man's pension.

If you wife doesnt have rights from her employment in the UK then she is not due anything from the basic state pension.

However if you have accrued SERPs/2nd State Pension/Additional State Pension entitlement from your work in the UK then your wife should get 50% of that on your demise.

Look here for details. Suggest you get a State Pension Forecast: see here.

I'm glad the previous poster has said this. It needs saying louder and clearer, because there are still people who think there is a 'married man's pension'. There hasn't been, for a number of years now.

We all earn our own pension nowadays, and some of us think that's how it should be.

Thanks guys, i worked from the age of 15, and in the end had my own company so over the years i've paid hundreds of thousands in tax and stamp so i expect my pension to be as good as it gets, which from the sound of it aint that good, hehe.

Have you paid 30 years contribs before you left? If not, it could be worth your while to pay some voluntary contribs to get up to 30 years.

Did you pay into a personal or executive pension? Most company owners would, as it saves you and your company tax. If so, contact your provider with your current address, and it could be accessed now.

Yup atush, all payments up to date, i did have an executive plan which i converted to a hyp with h, lansdown, i'm actually considering buying an anuity with it as it's not really doing what it's supposed to, and all i seem to do is sell shares to take payments, it's down to about 75k now, i'm hoping it would bring me in around £300 or so monthly.
