Do Experian reports mark your credit file?

I was about to request a free experian report before applying for a barclaycard and thought...

Will this mark my file at all - making it less (or more?) likely I would be accepted?

Banks love to know every seemingly pointless bit of information they can get their hands on and as a software developer myself I would log every time a database is read as well as modified - so why wouldn't a credit check company do this too and include is in the metric they return to the banks?

Monkey.

no. Each time you log on is recorded but not shown to potenial creditors.

Quotes for car/home insurance also rack up searches but don't count towards credit applications. Those ones are really just for checking you are who you say you are.
