I bought one a couple of weeks ago in Ipswich branch, early days yet but the picture is good and so is the sound quality One thing though you cant turn it off completly unless you turn the socket off at the wall it will only go on standby-strange in this day and age of being told not to leave things on standby.

Well, there's lots of disinformation to be honest.

Older CRT TVs used lots of energy even when in standby, most new TVs consume less than 1 watt, so don't worry about it.

    Hi,

Have you got the tv wallmounted? If so can you recommend a wall bracket.
Also can you tell me the depth of the tv as tesco say 19cms

    Thanks

Seems like a good deal to me too.

Do you know if it runs off 12 volts too?

One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.

Yes but that is 1 watt times millions of TVs around the world. It adds up. We have to wake up to the fact that the worlds eco system works globally and doesn't recognise borders or individuals. We are all in it together. ;)

Every night (or when I am not using for long periods in the day) I switch off at the mains my TV, cable box, dvd recorder, video and hi fi. All the clocks on these devices are automatically set when they are switched on and all channel programing is stored as well so no excuse for turning off at the mains.

Going off topic but when I took one of those Mains power meters around my house, the TVs were all between 0 and 2 watts (both LCD and CRT). The biggest culprits were the sky boxes - 15-20 watts on "standby", which was only 1 watt below their "on" power assumedly as the electronics are all still running in case they receive a firmware update and so as to be able to turn on instantly.

At 10p/KWh, 20w is 1pence every 5 hours, i.e. 2 pence per night or £7 per year. Not a huge amount (compared to Sky subscriptions) but with approaching 8 million Sky subscribers (UK and Ireland) that's £56 million electricity wasted per year just overnight. If you double this and assume that most boxes are on standby 20 hours/day then it would be £100million.

If we assume standby TVs use 1/15th the power of a standby Sky box then the Sky boxes are equivalent to 120million TVs. The current estimate is only 60 million in the UK. I.e. Fixing the TV issue is only half the benefit of fixing the Sky issue.

That's a lot of money, a lot of wasted power and a lot of CO2 released into the environment just because of a small design decision by BSkyB.

Anyway I don't turn everything off, but by turning off three switches (two TV/Sky/DVD extension leads plus my wireless router) I'm saving 40w for 20 hours per day. Saves me £2 per month and a means little bit of environmental pressure for minimum effort.
