Biggest problem I have is that his solicitors have a reputation for being aggressive.
Which means you need good, strong, knowledgeable representation otherwise you might end up with a bad deal. When it comes to divorce solicitors cheap rarely means good.

Really don't agree with this NAR.

We all know about the local NI divorce solicitor who had a reputation for being "aggressive” and considered by many to be one of the “best” because of this image she portrayed. She was recently declared bankrupt. The Law Society received numerous complaints about this solicitor, no doubt most were on billing.

Price =/= quality in the legal profession.

I quite liked the solicitor I went to see and yes I found her on recommendation and they have a good reputation that's all I can say, it was my solicitor who told me that my husbands firm are aggressive and they have had dealings with them in the past, but again told me that everything seems to be quite straightforward. Thankfully, apart from making sure my dd gets what she is entitled to and fighting for that I am not stressed, I want this to go through and we have been apart for many years.

Thanks again for all the kind replies and recommendations

alisara hopefully you have been advised/are aware that your legal aid costs will have to be repaid from your settlement. Sounds like your solicitor has her wits about her as she is aware of who she is up against. Sometimes it is a balancing act of getting a fair/reasonable deal v costs escalating squabbling over small amounts/details. Good luck.
