I know this is only a small thing, but with regard to the pre payment certificate for your medicine, can you not persuade your doctor to put 2-3 months worth at a time on a prescription and then it'd only be £7.20 4 times a year, which is giving you an extra £90?Save 12k in 2015 challenger NO.128 £0.00/£8000

Good idea on the payment card. If not, it might be cheaper to buy some medication without a prescription.
If it's paracetamol and codeine, say, that's very inexpensive for moderate quantities. It's available over the pharmacist counter without prescription in limited quantities, one 32 tablet box per purchase with 500mg paracetamol and 8mg codeine typically in each tablet, though up to 12.8mg of codeine versions are available without a prescription. In a few areas where abuse is an issue or if the pharmacist doubts the reason for the purchase a request to buy might be declined. Those packs are available for as little as 55p or so from web vendors, though shipping and the one box per purchase restriction will raise the practical cost. If a 15mg or 20mg codeine tablet is required a prescription is needed and those might be necessary to avoid paracetamol overdose risk while getting the required amount of codeine - paracetamol damage to the liver is a real risk even with quite small overdoses.0 -
If you buy the prepayment card as 3 monthly ones you can stock up just before it expires then delay buying a newone until you need new stock - it stretches it out over about 15months for me and is cheaper than a yearly
If you're having no luck with the agency try goingdirectly to the source. An agency isnt the only place to get a job
Get the bus to industrial estates in your area and go around each companyhanding in your CV. Ask to speak to the warehouse managers and have aconversation with them about work.
Go to supermarkets and ask for work. Nightshifts can pay £10 per hournowdays. Pubs usually have a high turnover of staff and at this time of yearcity centre pubs lose loads of their student staff.
To be honest you just need a job, any job to get some income. Dont worryabout what it is and if you like it as you can use it to buy you some timewhilst you find a better job. Its always better to look for work whilst in workto keep the money flowing

Good morning all
I have just read through all your lovely comments and thought I would answer some questions:
I am unable to claim JSA due to my wifes wages.
I have to have 5 lots of pain medication every month. I unfortunately cant bulk order them as the doc has to see me once a month to check that the tablets are not doing any damage to my liver/stomach and they are still working. I spoke to my chemist and she checked what would be the best payment plan and the £10 a month is cheaper for my prescriptions so I am happy with this (also my wife pays this)
This is where I feel really bad. All the loans, credit cards etc (except the mortgage) is in my wifes name as she has really good credit rating. I checked mine and mine is also good as I used a high rate credit card last year, spent £10 month and paid it in full (by selling stuff on ebay / 5p and 2p's.) My wife actually suggested this. I dont want to jepodise my wifes credit rating whist she is able to make the normal payments, especially as after nearly 4 years of paying loans/CCard etc she can finally see the end of the light.
Thank you for the suggestion of the old style board :T I have managed to get some really good ideas on how to make the food we have last.
My wife also had a good idea. She suggested that I put my CV in envelopes and also a sweet and hand them to warehouses/places. This way it is something different and they remember me :rotfl:
Well on the plus side, 2 agencies I am registered with have said they might have a day's work next week or the following week so with any luck I might be able to feed us!
Thanks again for your comments x I will keep in touch0 -

I have not worked in agencies for years but when I last did was in the middle of one of Thatcher's recessions.
Agencies work by having surplus staff on their books. I found that I needed to harass them until it became easier to give me work than fob me off.
You sound like a pretty persistant sort of guy; so if you can cope with the early declines, ring them morning noon and night until they decide it is easier to give you work! Once you have that in place update the CV; date you signed up to now - temporary agency employment and list what you have done?
best of luckIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Got_No_Answers wrote: »I have made some notes to explain some bits. The £94 is not really £94 as my wife also pays £50 to her mum to help her with medical costs as she is in a worse state than us and needs some support with medical costs until at least feb next year.
So there it is ... please make comments, suggestions as at the moment I need everything anyone can help with
Without trying to pry too much, is the £50 towards your mother in law's medical costs negotiable? Is she paying into some private plan, or is she overseas or something? If she's not, I don't really know where the £50 would arise from. As you're well aware (having done it yourself?), the cost of NHS prescriptions can be capped @ £104 per year.
People in some financial boats (low incomes, certain means-tested benefits) are exempt from prescription charges, and cancer and dialysis patients (if it's that bad) are also exempt.
So...any room for manouvere there at all? £50 per month would go a long way towards some very basic food items!0 -
Hey there Got no Answers
Just wanted to say you are doing so well. You and your wife sound like a really solid team. With each others support you will come through this. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you get a job soon.
All the best

Hi,
Well done for posting your SOA, it's a bit daunting (like having strangers rummaging around in your undies drawer ) Anyway there are just a couple of things I noticed- your gas and elec are a bit high if you have a small house. I think you can also make small savings on your water - 'if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down', have quicker showers etc.
Also,I really think in your present situation that you need to review the £50 to the MIL, does she know how difficult your life is at the mo?
A friend of mine who is in chronic pain, but not one of the diseases you get an exemption certificate for has got an exemption certificate through her understanding GP. She has about 6 different meds a day free of charge. Do you have a good, understanding GP you could talk to about your situation.
You sound like a decent, hardworking chap that just needs a leg up, hopefully someone will do that soon.
Oh, and definately mortgage, council tax and food come way above unsecured loans and cc. Good luck

Hi and thanks for your comments
The £50 a month is for private treatment and medication that the NHS would not (but certainly should of) paid for for my MIL. This finishes in feb next year and both my wife and her brother contribute to this. My MIL is on high rate disability and her income has just been hit again and is being reviewed by the government. As much as the £50 would help, my wife would not want to leave her mum in a situation where she could not finish this treatment. We can find ways to eat (by hook or by crook) but my MIL can not survive without this treatment.
I dont really want to claim compensation as the injury cannot be 100% contributed to my previous job.
Well it's sunday night so roll on 9am monday to start the normal round of calling the agencies!0 -
