Mortgage approved, then more questions. Is it normal?

I applied for an Abbey mortgage via broker. Initially, she said all was ok and we even got as far as getting the survey report. There were no major problems, so the next stage should have been the mortgage offer. However, they are now asking for further details...

- proof or availability of funds for deposit
- proof of wages
- proof of uk residence (I am a UK permanent resident)
- estimated rental income we expect from current property

Is it normal for this delay between survey and offer? Why are they asking this after they have sent the surveyor out? Is there something we should be concerned about?

Abbey normally do all thier checks before sending round the surveyor.

Proof of income, proof of address (residence), estimated rental income (assuming letting out your current property and not selling) should all have been requested and sent in with the mortgage application

As long as there is no difference between what has been put on the application ,a nd what you provide, you should have no problems though

The decisions are also based on what you tell them. They now want proof of what you told them. As long as you didnt tell porkies then you wont have a problem.

it's very unusual for Abbey to come back with further requests - does seem odd. Did they do the survey, or did you arrange one elsewhere?

If it was "fast tracked" - lenders do reserve the right to ask for more info/ docs ... this may be case specific or ramdom

There was a number of letters in industry press suggesting abbey often asked for extra info (but I can't say I noticed)

Abbey did the survey, we got the report in an Abbey folder. And yes, it was fast-tracked. The broker did not ask for many details during the application process. So, I suppose that explains it then.
