Well as I said I can only advise on my own personal experience and what others have told me. The advice to put it in writing is of course very good.
As I have said, they never tried to take money out of my account (that I know of) but it took 4 months to get a repayment plan and in that time my debt went from 100 to 350.
When I asked them for a statement of account(jan this year) they told me it would cost me £10 , complete nonsense, after many many emails to every address I could find as well as a letter they did eventually provide not one but two statements, both different (slightly) and both wrong
Hence my complete lack of faith in their professionalism

It is of course up to personal choice and I can not make anyone do anything, but I would err on the side of caution.

With all due respect to immoralangel, and I have no reason to doubt you, but you are making assumptions' Just like someone on another website said to me" I have made over 7000 posts therefore I must be right" well actually up until recently she had given bad advice so very many times

I have to agree with Jon. Am battling through a payday loan nightmare myself.
I haven't called any of the companies concerned, everything in writing. Paper trail of all correspondence should it go to court.

Wonga were one of the easiest to deal with.

Having said that I did take a lot of advice from Steve Perry's book.

The total nightmare of the bunch are Minicredit, but thats a whole new thread one day.

    Indeed. One experience. Just one.

    Third hand information

Isn't that what you are doing?

To be honest, I think your information is flawed at best.

Mara, first off the assuption I was talking about was
immoralangel is a cab advisor. so i presume she is speaking from experience of
having dealt with wonga for many many clients?
I a not asking anyone to justify themselves but just becuase immoralangel is a CAB advisor actually means nothing , and the bit about in writing and I&E in pretty standard stuff.

Second, if you want to suggest that my post is flawed at best -how very dare youmake that underlying comment-try saying where it is flawed.
There are only two other fist hand and therefore by your opinion valid arguments ,

My suggestions are based on my experience, not just with Wonga but also with several others. You dismiss me saying what I have been told as third hand, where are we in court....if you had asked me who the worst were then lending stream , minicredit and the money shop would have been up there.
Is not doing a belt n braces job not better than trusting to luck and possibly having your bank account emptied .
If you really read my post I did also say that maybe things have improved , especially as the OFT are doing an investigation and these people are fighting for their business lives

And the fact that you've had a bad experience means nothing.

When people are trying to avoid pay day loan companies emptying their bank accounts it is generally considered wise to move accounts completely. Cancelling the card alone does not work - and I would never advocate someone lying about their card being stolen.

So you clearly have a problem managing your money. That might reflect on your experiences with multiple pay day loan companies.

Mara, Your post is frankly ill informed, judgemental and just plain wrong in places.
First off,you completely missed the point about my comment about immoral angel. Just because they are a CAB advisor does not automatically mean they know anything about Wonga whereas I have stated as a fact that I have experience and as a one time active participant on another site have come across a lot of people who have suffered the same problems.

You have totally contradicted yourself and other comments ignoring the fact that PDL's can and do empty bank accounts...however by following my advice you have the law on your side. There is legislation stating that by writing to your bank you can cancel continuous payment authorities. Maybe reporting the card as stolen goes beyond what you are prepared to do, but it is pretty standard advice (or at least lost/stolen is).
Certainly there used to be some advice given(now not) on the other site to move banks and i do admit that if the banks break the law and let the money be taken it is not much use to you if you have nothing until they pay the money back. However it should not be necessary. Cancelling the card does work, or at least did work for me.

Your final comment about me being bad with money is just plain insulting and judgemental lke many people on here. This site should be about helping and not judging . My ability to manage my finances is totally irrelevant to the advice I gave, in fact maybe it shows I have more experience at dealing with payday loan companies

Wonga, for me were more than happy to discuss my situation. Sadly I hadnt had my LBM and let it slip again, now sadly paying through a DCA.

However they helped as much as possible, they really did

Well it would appear that Wonga have mended their ways so it;s op to the OP to do what they see fit. May I suggest that they take a look at this before making up their own mind

In the search box stick in Wonga or just rad some of the threads

BTW I in no way endorse any of the advice on that website as so much of it is wrong, however it will give you an idea of some of the things wonga will try
  • I have used Wonga several times and on the whole i'd say about 90% happy with their service.

i've had a WEEKLY payment plan insitue since Dec 2011, except there were two dates over the festive season that I did not what included in the plan as i received no salary those dates.

After agreeing with this they still emailed a payment plan which included those dates... then apologised and amended the plan.. then when those dates came wonga emailed me claiming i'd defaulted... then apologised again

I have not been able to view my payment plan online for months - although I have kept up payments - still like to check now and again.
I send a query asking why and response asked me to phone.

More recently i have asked for a written (email) note to confirm what payments have been received and what the current outstanding balance is on my account.

In all my emails I have stated i will not discuss anything over the phone as i want written proof of all details.

But I always get my request ignored and a standard email asking me to call them to discuss over the telephone.

Sent another email this morning asking for confirmation that all payments received so far and asking for current outstanding balance.
As usual asked them to respond in writing as i will not phone.

Now that sounds like the Wonga I know and love. For you the inconvenience of them getting it wrong and not replying to emails equates to 10% on the satisfaction scale. I am afraid for me it would rate much higher. I was emailing them daily and it took over a week to get a single reply. That is just not good enough in my opinion
