When to apply for employment?

I am due to finish my law degree exams on the 15th May, i'm having a year out before any further study and will be looking for a law related job. I have seen a few which i would be interested in, unfortuatly i very much doubt they would hang about till mid may.
When would be the most appropriate time for me to commence job-searching for starting about mid may?
Thanks

Personally I feel that you're leaving a bit late; I certainly wouldn't wait any longer. Don't forget that if someone who was already working went for these jobs, they would have to give at least one month's notice, often more. Allowing for the application procedure to take at least a month, you can see that there's no way you're too early. Good luck.0

I would be surprised if it is only a months notice... most "professionals" have 3 months or longer notice period in my experience... but then so will hand in their notice and then start looking for jobs as they know 3 months will be off putting to future employers.
I guess it also depends on what sort of jobs you are going for... graduate development or.....All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
