Been hearing a lot about this new legislation for those struggling with debts can now get them written off. Anyone have accurate info on this?

It doesn't exist. Which vultures ie. fee charging debt management company told you that?If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

But I know of someone who had all his debt written off and got to keep his car and big tv. The rest of furniture was his landlords anyway.0

Well then I guess maybe talk to him about what he did / what 'new legislation' he used?
Would his car have been worth very much? maybe its value was below the threshold so he was allowed to keep it.
Or maybe it was on finance and so not legally his and he is still paying for it.
Or perhaps he meant that his debts were unenforceable? (which is not the same as them being written off)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Hi
Tixy and Fermi have already given some great advice but I thought you might be interested in a blogpost we wrote last year about the myths surround ‘Your debts written off’:

In hope this helps.

The ones who phoned me were trying to sell me an IVA,0

New legislation being the 1986 Insolvency Act presumably?
I bang on enough about bad DMP's and inappropriate advice, but if you are in a position where an IVA may benefit then you certainly shouldn't be seduced by "new" legislation that is 26 years old, nor should you be tempted by those that cold call, or more probably, cold text.0 -
I totally agree with the replies on this thread. Any contact claiming they can "write off" debt has got to be a scam and I personally would not reply or contact any such company suggesting this. I have made the massive step of contacting Step Change and have set up a Debt Management Plan. Although, being completely truthful, an error was made by them in setting up my plan that caused me some very unnecessary upset & stress, I do believe they are still a very good organisation and I am happy to stick with them regardless of the error made. They have always been brilliant to speak to, very helpful and apologised for their mistake (which I do believe was genuine). I would still completely recommend you speak with these kind of experts and ignore the "quick fix" fairy tale scams0
