Hi all
Does anyone know if any of the Tube Lines will be starting earlier in the mornings? (or MSE Administrators/Martin can find out or if anyone works for TFL).
As a volunteer during the Olympics several of my shifts start early where I need to cross London (via Tube) but looking at the current timetable they don't start early enough!
Thank you

Are the night buses any help?0 -

Hi 80schick,
The tube lines are expected to be starting earlier and finishing later than normal but the actual schedule hasn't been announced yet. There are lots of volunteers who are in the same boat as you (me included) and LOCOG are working with TFL organising public transport. I've got some craazy start and finish times!
If your on Facebook theres a whole group of volunteers if you want to discuss training, travel, accomodation etc but I won't post the link publicly, let me know if you want me to PM you the link.

The Olympic Games timetable for the DLR is up. You can find it at http://www.dlrlondon.co.uk/londongamesCalendar.aspx
This should give you an indication of the rest of underground timetable I'd imagine.0 -
I don't know about the mornings yet, but tube lines will be running until 2am-ishAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Another useful website is

Its mainly for spectators travelling to the Games but may give an idea of timetables and traffic hotspots to avoid.0 -
The amended DLR timetable has been tested recently between Stratford and Canary whart - I'm at a loss to understand this but it basically consists of them running LESS trains than their usual service, leaving - and this is on a normal non-Olympic day - each train packed, and one train every 10 minutes. The staff at Stratford station are already in panic mode - closing off the station and entrances to platforms at the drop of a hat, one way systems at times and generally a nightmare. Over Christmas, the first one for Westfield, it was incredibly busy. The Central line is already about a hundred degrees on a hot day - I'm praying for a cold August.
Being told to avoid certain stations is a joke - I mean, the usual travellers are being completely sidelined. Many companies have actually told their staff (mine included) that we are banned from booking holiday over the Olympics!! We are trying to persuade managers at work to let us work at home but they think we will sit in the garden eating ice creams all day.
Why anyone would want to be there unless paid is beyond me (excuse me if you are a volunteer or participant but I'm not in favour of us hosting the Olympics when there are children with no food on their plate still in London and so many homeless.) I understand there are local children initiatives around this but I don't see them lasting, from the experience of other host countries.
And I live near another event, so my small home town is also is chaos whilst they are putting in a new pumping station for the water events (water shortage? hmm....) - traffic chaos and overnight road closed completely. I friend nearby tried to get tickets but of course couldn't (no tickets for locals then eh.) Loads of beautiful trees and picnic areas for locals were bulldozered. A skanky block of flats nearby completely refurbished at tax payers expense. What a joke. And I see tickets are now on sale for events at the bargain price of £495....I mean, haven't we already paid for the Olympics as taxpayers....this event causes chaos and displacement around the world. I watch with interest the fate of the facilites after the tiny window in which it gets used this year and am counting the days until it is over.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -

I have tickets to the Ladies Hockey at 8am on Sunday 29th July. I emailed the Olympic website to ask when they were publishing new train times and were they extending the Sunday service and I was just emailed the link to the car parking site! I am a 30 mins tube journey from Baker Street, but I cannot physically get to my event on time using either Trains or by driving! There is no sign that the Met Line, Chiltern Line or trains from Watford Junction are starting any earlier. If I drive, it says get to the car park 90mins before you need to get to the Olympic site. It then says get to the Olympic site 60 mins before your event. That means I have to allow 2.5hrs between parking and getting to my event. The car parks don't open until 6am and my event starts at 8am, that's 2hrs! So I have bought £140 worth of tickets and I'm going to miss the first match! Unbelievable! Surely you need to run the same service on Sundays as you are any other day, there are the same events going on! I wish I hadn't ever bothered getting the tickets. My daughter is also working on the retail side for the Olympics and I have no idea how she'll get there in time for her shifts. We are going to be a laughing stock. Every rail line should be starting early enough to get people to the site at least 1 hr before the start. It's not difficult to work out, and made even more sickening by the fact the tube drivers are being paid a fortune for just doing their job.0
