Advice needed on log book loan

Hi,
My boyfriend took out a log book loan 14months ago for £1500 and has had difficulty in the past paying some of the money back, his car has been removed twice and then returned to him once he got his payments up to date (including paying the huge charges to the bailiff). He has been trying to contact the company for the past 4 weeks and has just been informed that the company has gone into administration and abother company have taken over. This company have not contacted him to advise this and when he finally got to speak to someone today they have told him he now owes £1800 and needs to pay this in full otherwise further charges will be added. They also cannot tell him who now holds his log book for his car. Does anyone know if this is legal and what advice can you give me in trying to sort this out as the company are really unhelpful. Thanks.

I think you'll probably need to goto citizens advice with this. Sounds a bit more complicated than could be looked at remotely. Lots of variables, and the need to establish who has what.

Don't get into telephone conversation with them, keep it in writing sent recorded/special delivery. This will give you the opportunity to think and get advice on your next course of action. It also ensures an official record of communications between you.

To keep lions, tigers and other dangerous cats you'll need a licence under the endangered and dangerous animals act.....a log book loan does not count I'm afaid.

    I disagree.

Log book loans should be kept in a zoo. They cause much more trouble than lions and tigers. In fact, I can't remember when lions and tigers last featured on here....... Log book loans though, they are regulars.

Sounds like your boyfriend has made this company bankrupt by not paying back the money like he promised so tell him it's all his fault.

Anyway, sounds like he has defaulted once again so he must have been told who to pay the £1800 to. Settle up - getting proof of payment - then demand the log book back from there.
