Airport security job-Bad credit

Hi!New here so please be gentle and sorry if this has been asked before.I have applied for a job at an airport as a security officer. I don't want to bore anyone with the sob story but have had a very bumpy few years involving a husband who ran off abroad with the kids and left me with huge debts and a mortgage. Kids home, what else matters:T but finances are very messy. House is about to be re-posessed, and my only option is bankruptcy. I have been unable to find work where I am, and applied for this airport security job on the other side of the country thinking there was little hope. It has been a very challenging interview process taking months but had the call I never thought I would get this morning with a job offer. Now I am panicking as is subject to very careful checks (5 year work/home history and work and personal references!) and I am not sure if these will involve financial stuff. It says on the form I must allow any relevant checks including financial, but is it relevant?Just to add to the pressure I am going to have to rent a house as start date they gave me quite soon so don't want to get stuck in a different area paying rent on something without a wage. My parents are acting as guarantors for me with the flat. Does anyone know anything about this? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I am so worried that this wonderful offer may be withdrawn. Please help.:(

If you require security clearance (SC) for the post you will fail if you have a CCJ or are bankrupt. Other debts aren't so much of a problem if you can afford to keep up with payments.
  • I would say you should be fine. Why don't you just ask them to be sure, if they have offered you the job I can't see harm in asking what the checks are for as you were in debt and you are worried this would be a problem. I don't see people in debt as airport criminals, so I am sure they will keep an open mind! :-)
  • Thanks for replies both, as seems to be usual now I have got two different opinions but all helps and checking forms all gone off now so all I can do is wait and keep my fingers crossed. Keep posting if anyone else knows more for sure!
