Simple answer. Two words barge and pole.

    From their website:

"Our average customer settles their debts in 36 months (I don't believe that and would ask them for proof). Our guarantee is that if we don’t save you money on your debt, we won’t charge you! (not even the first 2 months fees?) We also offer a Guarantee, that if after 12 months you are not completely satisfied with our service, then you can have your last nine months of payments back (what 9 months of payments, you say there are no monthly fees?) – without charge. Rest assured that we only take a fee, when we make a settlement that saves you money – if we cannot negotiate a saving for you, we do not charge you (What about the 2 months payment?). We only charge an administration fee for setting up your plan which is equivalent, to the first 2 months of your payments (only?!). This is the very common, as the costs in setting up the plan over the first 8 weeks can be high (It's not common with CCCS or Payplan!). On average, our customers will save 50% on their debt. With NO MONTHLY FEES, (hmm what about the refund of monthly fees you mentioned earlier?) you will often be much better off than any debt management plan or IVA"

    Not with a bargepole!

    Hello CFC

There are plenty of wise old sayings that apply here - you have already quoted one of them.

Ask yourself what SettleMyDebt are qualified to do which you are not.

    Avoid like the plague.

but they sound so much better than a debt management plan

Well they'd hardly go out of their way to make themselves out to be a bad idea, would they?

if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is

Turns out you already know the answer yourself...

thanks for confirming what in reality I already knew ..... am looking at a dmp atm but am really scared about taking the first step. I have a telephone appt with Payplan on Thursday and an appt with the CAB in a couple of weeks time to try to get the best advice from both worlds. CCCS (or whatever they're called) has advised bankruptcy - there is absolutely NO way I can contemplate that one.

Either of those 2 companies, CCCS or Payplan will steer you in the right direction and not charge you a penny. You will find a way out and never look back once you take the plunge. Good Luck.
