Debt collectors going after cleared debts

I've just joined really to say thank you! I tend to lurk on here and this morning the site proved particularly useful.

I was woken up by CARS collection agency phoning and saying I owed Vanquis £45.24. Not a nice way to be woken up. Especially as the last piece of correspondence I had from Vanquis sometime last year said the account had been cleared and closed.

Needless to say, I refused to pay anything or make any kind of arrangement and sent the woman off to talk to Vanquis.

Still hadn't heard back, was worried it was some charge they'd managed to make up for closing the account or something daft. So popped over to another forum for an OMG moment, then came here and found the 0800 number for them, which still works:T Lovely, lovely chap checked out everything for me, confirmed account closed and nothing owed and went off to tell CARS off.
