Ha, ha, Lidl has a food slicer on offer soon.

Whenever I see kitchen gadgets designed to make life easier, such as apple slicers, avocado skinners etc I frequently have to pinch myself. Who doesn't have a good sharp knife in their kitchen? Failing that, a mandolin is probably the best option.

I have sympathy with you OP, I too hate chopping onions but also don't like eating them so I find it easier to avoid them altogether. Otherwise, sticking them in the fridge will limit their potential to make you cry whilst chopping. HTH.

I have a pampered chef chopper, it's takes abit of effort pushing the handle down to chop stuff but genereally it's not bad, i also use it on chicken to make it last longer in sandwichs, when i'm making soup, and for making hm egg mayo, it's nearly 3 years old and still very sharp.

Saying that i wouldn't buy it again, it costs nearly £30 if it ever breaks i'll just cut stuff up the old fashioned way.

  • Might not be what you are looking for, but I bought a "V Slicer" off Amazon. I was sceptical as it is a classic TV shopping item, but I have been pleasantly surprised.

I LOVE my Kenwood mini chopper. It is only small so won't do huge amounts but it takes up next to no room, is easy to clean and I've used mine almost daily for 3 years...it's still going!

I really like my "Nicer Dicer", it makes very light work of chopping veg. I bought it a couple of years ago - beware the imitations being sold on e**y and Ama**n - they are not nearly as solid as the original.

If it breaks, I will not replace it - as others have said, a sharp knife is good enough.

    They look so dangerous!!!

I bought one of those Nicer Dicers but you need such a whack to chop stuff (and the cleaning) I hardly ever use it. (maybe if visitors to get same size cuts)

I like the JML nicer dicer too,I use mine regularly for fruit coctails and dicing veg for soup, the biggest of the chopping squares is brilliant, but the smaller one isnt so good, too much force needed...only £7.50 in Tesco just now(£25 in Argos),As Minihauk says, beware of cheap imitations.

I have a Borger V slicer. I bought one today in a charity shop for £1.50 and I tried it for the first time this afternoon on a big batch of vegetable soup and it is brilliant. It has a thing you put the veg into to slice so your hand doesn't go anywhere near blade.
