Do I have to pay tax? Is this self employment?

If you earn money (or have the potential to) and you are not taxed at source then yes it is self employment. The exception to it is if you are selling your own secondhand possessions (unless you are buying things with the explicit intent to resell them)0

Hi, thanks for replying. I haven't called them yet.
I'm a housewife supported by my husband. I'm getting paid £1,500 this year for helping a friend with a website, and I just wondered if I need to declare it as self employed. It will be my only income this year, but yes, I suppose I should because I might get a job later on this year and would need to pay the extra in tax. I know nothing about self employment and this is a one-off, so I got confused and wrote a post about it, then thought that actually I could just call somebody about it in the morning
