Hi
I am wondering if anyone can help me, I found out today that money was taken yesterday from my bank account by Wonga.com (i have never used this company or any other company like it in my life) 7 separate times totaling nearly 800 pounds. I have never had anything like this happen to me before and I don't really know what to do, I have spoken to my bank and they have confirmed that they will refund all of the money. However I am worried that someone may have taken loans out in my name, I have emailed wonga but whether or not they tell me anything remains to be seen. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do now?
Many thanks

Get your credit reports from the 3 major CRA's (see stickies at top of forums on how to do this).
You can put a self-appointed CIFAS marker on your credit with a password. This will stop anymore credit being taken out if you are a victim of identity theft.
CIFAS markers are a big red flag though so only do so if you aren't intending to apply for credit yourself anytime soon as you'll then have the extra hassle of providing password and proof of you are who you say you are. I also have read experiences of these self-appointed markers not being read correctly as such by financial institutions and issues arising.0 -
Have you paid off a loan for someone else (friend/family) using your bank details?
There are many stories on here of people doing a favour for someone only to find sometime later that the PDL company have helped themselves to your money when the person who took out another loan couldn't repay on time.
Also, contact your bank and make sure that Wonga are not authorised to take any more money from your account."Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're right" - Henry Ford0 -
Good point out-of-debt ; if you paid off someone else's Wonga loan then they can take payments for future loans with that person.0

Thank you both
I will definitely look into my credit reports and the CIFAS.
I have spoken to my bank and asked them to make sure nothing else is allowed for Wonga.
Have never helped anyone with loans (hard enough to pay off my own) )
